Two days ago, Bangladesh suffered a major setback when their captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz was taken to hospital following a nasty bouncer from Nathan Ellis during the second ODI against Australia. Even though the bouncer struck Miraz in the middle of Bangladesh’s innings, he kept on batting despite being on his knees for a while.

Immediately after the bouncer hit, Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan came to check whether Miraz was alright. He stayed on, and smashed a six to pull off a historic series win for Bangladesh before eventually going to hospital.

Although Miraz was discharged from the hospital later on, Bangladesh have still kept him under observation for the third and final ODI against Australia, scheduled to take place on Sunday in Dhaka.

For safety, they have now made changes in Bangladesh ODI Squad For Australia for the last match.

Mahedi Hasan Returns To Bangladesh ODI Squad

31-year-old all-rounder Mahedi Hasan has been recalled to Bangladesh ODI squad after a wait of three years. Mahedi, who last played an ODI match back in November 2023 during the last edition’s ODI World Cup in India, has been added to cover Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Even though Mahedi was not in the scheme of things for Bangladesh in ODIs, he recently played a T20I match for the country, against New Zealand in Mirpur.

With ODI series already secured, Bangladesh may give Mahedi Hasan a chance in the dead rubber against Australia.

Earlier, Bangladesh ODI Squad For Australia was announced for first two matches. Now, with Mahedi Hasan being added, it looks pretty much the same.

Bangladesh's Updated Squad For Australia ODIs

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (C), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Kumer Das, Musaddek Hossain Saikot, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, Mahedi Hasan

Mahedi Hasan's Stats For Bangladesh

Whenever Bangladesh used to produce spin-friendly surfaces in the past at home, they brought Mahedi Hasan as an extra spin-bowling option. However, they have now switched to making pace-friendly conditions, with Nahid Rana being the most fearsome weapon in their squad.

Nevertheless, Mahedi did alright in ODIs in the past, having taken 14 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 4.95. However, his numbers in T20Is are much more impressive, having got 70 wickets in 72 matches at an economy rate of just 6.75.

Mahedi was recently in action during Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, where he captains Legends of Rupganj.

Bangladesh Vs Australia T20Is Coming Up

Having won the first two ODIs, Bangladesh have already secured the 50-over series against Australia. Once the third ODI is over on Sunday, the focus will shift to the T20Is between the two sides.

Chattogram will host all three T20Is between Australia and Bangladesh, scheduled to happen on June 17, June 19 and June 21 respectively.
