Australia Players Who May Not Survive Until World Cup 2027 After Bangladesh Humiliation

The ODI series between Bangladesh and Australia ended just now. It finished with Bangladesh winning the three-match series with a 2-1 scoreline. However, it could have ended with a humiliating 0-3 scoreline against Australia’s favour had Cooper Connolly not played a sensational knock in the third and final ODI.
With the ODI World Cup 2027 not too far away, Australia must have looked at how to shape their team for the upcoming mega ICC event. They are the defending champions and have to be on their toes when the tournament takes place across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in the latter part of the next year.
Here, we take a look at three potential candidates from Australia who may lose their place in Australia’s playing XI in the World Cup 2027, if not in the squad.
List Of Australians Who Can Be Under Scanner For World Cup 2027
3. Matt Renshaw
Earlier known as a Test specialist, Matt Renshaw returned to Australia’s mix last year and made his debut in the ODIs. He did decently at home, making 21*, 30 and 56 in the series, giving an indication that he might fit into Australia’s ODI World Cup squad.
The numbers were alright even against Pakistan just a few days ago, where he had two 40+ scores in three attempts.
Unfortunately, things turned from bad to worse in the Bangladesh vs Australia series. His scores read: 4-ball 2, 5-ball duck and 2-ball duck.
With Australia’s middle-order options stacked, along with the rise of Cooper Connolly, Australia might have no choice but to leave Renshaw out of the World Cup 2027 squad unless he drastically improves his numbers in the coming months.

[Matt Renshaw vs Cooper Connolly ODI Numbers]
Yes, Connolly’s ODI career did not get a fluent start. However, his 149 against Bangladesh in the third T20I, coupled with an impressive stint under Ricky Ponting with the Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, has significantly raised his stock. The issue is that Connolly and Renshaw have very similar profiles, and there is, in all likelihood, only one who can make the World Cup 2027 squad.
2. Marnus Labuschagne
Despite playing 72 ODIs, Labuschagne only averages 33.55 in ODIs, having made 1980 runs at a strike rate of 81.54. More importantly, his ODI average has only gone downwards since 2023.

[Marnus Labuschagne's ODI Stats Year-Wise]
With the likes of Cameron Green and Josh Inglis being there, including Labuschagne will only bring trouble to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2027. Instead, they could look after some fresh faces if required, someone like Joel Curtis or Oliver Peake, for the long-term future.
1. Adam Zampa
The name might surprise you, but Adam Zampa only had one wicket in the Bangladesh vs Australia ODIs after bowling 25 overs. Very similar to Labuschagne, the 34-year-old is no longer the same threatening spin option he used to be in the past.

[Adam Zampa's ODI Stats Year-Wise]
With the likes of Matthew Kuhnemann, Todd Murphy and Tanveer Sangha waiting in the wings, there is a possibility that Zampa might lose his place in the World Cup 2027.
However, given how he performed in the last ODI World Cup edition, there is little doubt that he will be in the ODI World Cup 2027 squad. Nevertheless, the question is whether he would keep his place in Australia playing XI or not.
