Nurul Hasan scored a fighting and only half-century for Bangladesh in their most disastrous Test match against West Indies in 2018, which resulted in him facing the axe from the squad. He is a talented wicketkeeper-batter who is a product of the Under-19 World Cup, while it took him five first-class seasons before he made his big international debut in 2016.

Hasan represented Bangladesh during the 2010 U-19 World Cup, in New Zealand, as a wicketkeeper-batsman. He was Bangladesh’s joint-highest and overall tenth-highest run-getter in the tournament, where he scored 207 runs that included two fifties. Nurul also played the next edition of the Junior World Cup, but this tournament was devastating for the keeper-batter as he could only club 27 runs in six games.

Born in Khulna, he made his first-class debut in the 2011 season, however, Hasan’s List-A and T20 debut for Khulna Division came in 2010. Although his breakthrough season came in the 2013-14 season when he compiled a total of 489 runs at an average of 81.50. But it was his decent performance during the 2015 BPL that paved his way in the national squad.

The wicketkeeper-batter made his international debut against Zimbabwe in a T20I clash in 2016. After the Zimbabwean tour, he returned to the domestic circles to produce a 500-run Dhaka Premier League season, before making his ODI debut in late 2016. The following year, Hasan made his Test debut against New Zealand at Christchurch to score a brilliant 47 and took two catches behind the stumps. He played a couple more Tests in the West Indies in 2018, before getting dropped when he scored his maiden half-century.

Bangladesh has been quite blessed when it comes to wicketkeepers, that’s the reason for Hasan’s misfortune at the international stage. However, they have struggled to find a batter who could flourish the innings at number 6 or 7. While Hasan’s form in the domestic white-ball tournament suggests that he could soon cement his spot in the national team.
