Nasum Ahmed is a left-arm spinner hailing from the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. He is a tall bowler with a high-arm trajectory who believes in flighting the ball to tease the batsmen with his spin. Ahmed is a workhorse who can bowl long economical spells and can also provide assurance from the bat at middle-order.
The Sylhet-born cricketer started off primarily as a spinner and made his first-class debut during the 2010-11 National Cricket League season. The spinner could only play three games in his debut season but he bagged 14 wickets. On the back of his maiden first-class season, he donned Bangladesh’s colours during the 2012 U-19 World Cup and finished the tournament as his team’s highest wicket-taker.
He made his first T20 appearance in 2013 during the eighth Bangladesh Cricket Games and played his maiden List-A game for Sylhet in 2014. As Ahmed’s career progressed, he sharpened his batting skills as well to earn the title of an all-rounder. In November 2019, he was selected to play for the Chattogram Challengers in the 2019–20 Bangladesh Premier League.
Ahmed got his maiden international call-up for the T20I series against touring Zimbabwe in March 2020, but couldn’t make his international debut then. Later that year, the all-rounder made headlines when an animated Mushfiqur Rahim had to apologize to Ahmed for making a threatening gesture twice during a Bangabandhu T20 game.
The all-rounder again earned a call-up for the tour of New Zealand where Bangladesh is scheduled to play an ODI and a T20I series. Ahmed is a skilful all-rounder who could make his mark whenever he gets the chance to don Bangladesh’s national jersey across all formats. However, he has a long fight with the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam to cement his place.
